Marseille harcolt a Csatorna felett, de igazi hírnevét az afrikai hadszíntéren szerezte, ahol az ellenség hamar megtanulta félni a sárga 14-es lajstromú Messercshmittet, mely ellen nem használt a Liberty-kör nevű védekező formáció. Ellenség soha le nem lőhette, halálát műszaki hiba okozta.
